# Zebra CLiCKART: Capless Click Marker in 48 Colors

> The Zebra CLiCKART is a retractable water-based color marker with no cap. Zebra's moist-keep ink draws moisture from the air so the exposed tip doesn't dry, and Zebra's own test found no skipping after 52 weeks. It writes a 0.6 mm line, comes in 48 colors in Japan and measures 147.7 mm.

- Made in (Zebra CLiCKART retractable water-based marker, 0.6 mm (WYSS22)): Not stated. Zebra Japan's product page and Zebra Pen's US page don't state the country of manufacture, and the retailers we read don't either.

## Key takeaways

- Zebra Japan lists the CLiCKART at 147.7 mm long, 10.4 mm at its widest and 8.0 g, with a 0.6 mm line and water-based dye ink.
- Zebra's test: no skipping after 52 weeks with the tip retracted, at 20°C (68°F) and 60% humidity.
- It launched in Japan on March 22, 2019 in 36 colors at ¥100 (about US$0.60); Zebra Japan now lists 48 colors at ¥132 (about US$0.80) each.
- It won a 2019 Good Design Award and an iF Design Award 2021, per Zebra.
- Zebra Japan names a replacement WS refill; bungu.store lists it in black and red only.

## What is the Zebra CLiCKART?

**It's a click-to-write water-based color marker with no cap.** Zebra built it around a new ink, so the felt tip can sit retracted in the open air without drying out.

Zebra says its research found that caps were the top complaint about water-based color pens: ink on your fingers when you open them, and pens drying out when you forget to close them. The CLiCKART removes the cap altogether.

## How does the capless tip stay wet?

**The ink pulls moisture from the air.** Zebra says its moist-keep ink is rich in moisture-absorbing ingredients, absorbing and releasing water as the humidity changes so the tip stays at the right wetness.

Zebra's test result: no skipping after 52 weeks with the tip retracted, at 20°C (68°F) and 60% humidity. That is a lab condition, not a promise for a dry winter office, and Zebra still says to retract the tip after each use.

## How do you know the tip is out?

**A round window on the barrel turns red.** Zebra says the window changes color when you click, so you can see at a glance whether the tip is exposed.

The window is a small detail, but it's what Zebra credits alongside the simple body for the 2019 Good Design Award and the iF Design Award 2021.

## Which colors are there?

**48 in Japan, in four groups of 12.** The 2019 launch had 36: 12 standard colors such as black, red and blue, 12 light ones such as aqua blue and salmon pink, and 12 dark ones such as blue gray and dark brown, per Impress Watch.

Yoseka says 12 pale colors joined in 2022. Zebra Pen's US store sells packs drawn from 36 colors, including Pastel, Light and Dark assortments.

## How does it compare to other journaling markers?

**It trades color depth for convenience: one click, no cap to lose.**

| Marker | Tip | Cap | Colors |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zebra CLiCKART | 0.6 mm felt | None, retractable | 48 (Japan) |
| [Zebra Mildliner](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/zebra-mildliner/) | 4.0 mm chisel + bullet | Two caps | 40 |
| [Monami Live Color](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/monami-live-color-twin-marker/) | Fine + medium or chisel | Two caps | 39 to 60 |
| [Pentel Touch Sign Pen](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/pentel-touch-sign-pen/) | Flexible brush fiber | Cap | 36 (Japan) |

For color-coding notes on the go, the CLiCKART is the quickest to use one-handed. For highlighting printed text, a [Mildliner](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/zebra-mildliner/) is the better fit.

## Can you refill a CLiCKART?

**Yes, with Zebra's WS refill.** Zebra Japan names the WS refill for the CLiCKART, and bungu.store lists it in black and red only, at ¥200 (about US$1.30).

For other colors you buy a new pen. On October 29, 2026, Yoseka Stationery listed singles at US$2.00, and Zebra Pen's US store listed a 12-pack at US$22.32.

## Where is the CLiCKART made?

**Zebra doesn't say.** Neither its Japanese page nor its US page names the country of manufacture, and we didn't find it on the retailer pages we read.

## Frequently asked questions

### Why doesn't the CLiCKART dry out without a cap?

Zebra says its moist-keep ink contains a lot of moisture-absorbing ingredients, so it takes water from the air and releases it as the humidity changes, keeping the tip wet. Zebra still tells you to retract the tip after use.

### How thick is the CLiCKART line?

0.6 mm, per Zebra Japan and bungu.store. Zebra Pen's US page says 6mm point, which reads as a typo for 0.6 mm.

### Can you write over dark CLiCKART lines with a light color?

Yes. Zebra says light colors laid over black or other dark colors don't make the dark ink run, so layered colors stay clean, though paper and drying time can change the result.

### Is the CLiCKART sold in the US?

Yes. Zebra Pen's US store sells 6, 12, 24 and 48 packs, and importers such as Yoseka Stationery sell single pens in our $ band, under $5 each.

### How many CLiCKART colors are there?

48 in Japan: the 36 of the 2019 launch (12 standard, 12 light, 12 dark) plus 12 pale colors that Yoseka says arrived in 2022. Zebra Pen's US page lists 36.

### Is the CLiCKART waterproof?

No. Zebra describes a water-based dye ink, and its US page says the ink blends with water for watercolor effects.
