# uni EMOTT: 0.4 mm Felt-Tip Liner in 40 Colors

> The uni EMOTT is a slim, white felt-tip pen from Mitsubishi Pencil that writes a 0.4 mm line. An outer sleeve around the plastic point stops it crushing, so the line stays fine, and Mitsubishi Pencil says its pigment ink doesn't bleed or show through. It comes in 40 numbered colors and in themed sets of 5, 10 and 40.

## Key takeaways

- Mitsubishi Pencil lists the EMOTT (PEM-SY) at ¥220 (about US$1.40) each, and the 40-color set at ¥8,800 (about US$56), both with tax.
- There are 40 single colors, each with a number, such as Black 24 or Blue 33.
- Twelve themed 5-color sets, from No.1 Vivid to No.12 Virtual, include 10 more colors that aren't sold singly.
- Mitsubishi Pencil says the sleeve keeps the point from crushing, so it holds a 0.4 mm line at different writing angles.
- Yoseka sells all 40 colors singly, in our $ band (under $5) per pen.

## What is the uni EMOTT?

**It is a fine felt-tip pen built for writing in many colors: a 0.4 mm line, 40 single colors and a slim white body.** Mitsubishi Pencil, the maker behind the uni brand, designed it around choosing colors in combinations, from vivid to deep and pale tones.

The body is white, with the color shown only by a band and a number. Kakaku.com Magazine's 2019 review noted that the pens look more like premium colored pencils than felt-tips; our [Mitsubishi Pencil history](https://stationerytimes.com/stories/mitsubishi-pencil-history/) covers the company behind them.

## How does the sleeved point work?

**An outer sleeve wraps the plastic point, so it can't crush and keeps writing a 0.4 mm line.** Mitsubishi Pencil says ordinary felt-tip points flatten with use, giving thicker or scratchy lines; the EMOTT's sleeve keeps the point sharp and hard to break.

It adds that the sleeve protects the tip at different writing angles. Kakaku.com Magazine's reviewers noted that only the very end of the point is colored, with the rest hidden in white resin.

## What is the ink like?

**A newly developed pigment ink that Mitsubishi Pencil calls water-resistant, with no bleeding or show-through.** That makes it suited, it says, to bullet journaling, lettering and drawing in notebooks, where many colors are used on one page.

Yoseka adds that the ink is acid-free and smear-proof, and that it is water-resistant but not completely waterproof. Mitsubishi Pencil's page makes no waterproof claim.

## What colors and sets are there?

**Forty single colors, each numbered, and four kinds of set.** The numbers run from Yellow 2 to Sea Fog 81, with Black 24 and Blue 33 among them; Kakaku.com Magazine reported that they follow Mitsubishi Pencil's colored pencil numbers.

| Pack | Code | Mitsubishi Pencil price (with tax) |
|---|---|---|
| Single pen, 40 colors | PEM-SY | ¥220 (about US$1.40) |
| 5-color set, No.1 to No.12 | PEM-SY 5C | ¥1,100 (about US$7) |
| 10-color set, No.1 to No.3 | Not shown | ¥2,200 (about US$14) |
| 40-color set | PEM-SY 40C | ¥8,800 (about US$56) |

![The twelve EMOTT 5-color sets: No.1 Vivid, No.2 Passion, No.3 Vintage, No.4 Island, No.5 Candy Pop, No.6 Nature, No.7 Floral, No.8 Retro, No.9 Nuance, No.10 Botanical, No.11 Midnight and No.12 Virtual](https://stationerytimes.com/images/uni-emott-sets.svg?v=6311725d)

*The twelve themed 5-color sets; sets 9 to 12 include colors not sold singly (Mitsubishi Pencil). Original illustration made for this guide. © Stationery Times.*

The 5-color sets are themed: No.1 Vivid holds yellow, green, red, black and blue, while No.3 Vintage holds khaki green, violet, dark brown, amethyst and gray.

Sets No.9 to No.12 add ten colors that aren't among the 40 singles, including Ecru, Ash Rose, Slate Blue, Carnation, Cork, Pale Lavender, Blue Black and Light Gray. With them, the range reaches 50 colors.

## Why is the body white?

**So the color is chosen by its band and number, not by the barrel.** Mitsubishi Pencil describes a white-based design with many colorings, and Kakaku.com Magazine's reviewers liked that the band matches the real ink color closely.

They also noted the drawback: with only a number printed on the pen, it's hard to say a color's name at a glance. Keeping the 40-color list handy, or the themed set it came from, helps when you reorder.

## How does EMOTT compare with other fineliners?

**It is a felt-tip in the same role as the STAEDTLER triplus and STABILO point 88, with pigment ink and a protected point.** Mitsubishi Pencil gives 0.4 mm; for the European pens and their line widths, see our [STAEDTLER triplus fineliner](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/staedtler-triplus-fineliner/) and [STABILO point 88](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/stabilo-point-88/) guides.

For a broader comparison, our [best fineliners](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/best-fineliners/) roundup ranks the main choices.

## How much does it cost in the US, and where is it made?

**Yoseka listed single EMOTT pens at US$3.00 on October 29, 2026, in all 40 colors.** That is in our $ band (under $5), and Yoseka also sells the 40-color set.

Mitsubishi Pencil's pages don't say where the EMOTT is made, and neither do Yoseka or the review we read. We couldn't read JetPens or Amazon, which block our tools.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is the EMOTT waterproof?

Mitsubishi Pencil calls the new pigment ink water-resistant and says it doesn't bleed or show through. Yoseka adds that it is water-resistant but not fully waterproof.

### Does the EMOTT tip wear down or go soft?

Mitsubishi Pencil says ordinary felt tips crush and get thicker or scratchy, while the EMOTT's outer sleeve protects the point so it keeps writing 0.4 mm. We haven't tested its lifespan yet.

### What do the numbers on EMOTT pens mean?

Each color has a number, such as Black 24. Kakaku.com Magazine reported in 2019 that the numbers match Mitsubishi Pencil's colored pencil numbering.

### Which EMOTT set should I buy first?

In our view, set No.1 Vivid covers everyday writing: yellow, green, red, black and blue. The 10-color set No.1 adds orange, light green, fuchsia, pink and brown.

### Is EMOTT good for bullet journaling?

Mitsubishi Pencil recommends it for bullet journals, notes and illustrations where you use many colors. Its 0.4 mm line suits small writing in a dotted notebook.

### Are there EMOTT colors you can only get in sets?

Yes. Sets No.9 to No.12 include ten colors, such as Ecru, Ash Rose, Slate Blue and Blue Black, that Mitsubishi Pencil doesn't list as single pens.
