## What is VersaMark?

**It is a colorless oil ink pad for effects, not for color.** Tsukineko says VersaMark is a clear oil ink that gives a double tone on plain paper and suits embossing and resist work, and that it combines with many inks and powders. VersaMark Dazzle is the shimmering version in Champagne or Frost.

Our [VersaMagic guide](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/versamagic-chalk-ink-pad/) covers a colored chalk pad from the same maker.

## Which pads are there?

**VersaMark L, two Dazzle pads and re-inkers for each.** All the pads are 96 × 63 × 20 mm with a 76 × 47 mm face.

| | Part number | List price before tax |

## How do you use it?

**Stamp, then add powder, or stamp as a resist.** Tsukineko lists four ideas: a double tone where the stamped area turns darker on suitable paper, a watermark on thin white paper, powder (chalk or pearl powder brushed on to blur) and a resist, where you stamp on glossy paper and use water-based dye ink over it for a white-out pattern.

## What is special about Dazzle?

**It is a shimmering double tone that shows best on colored paper.** Dazzle Champagne is champagne-colored; Frost is a white pearl with a faint shine. Tsukineko says the shine depends on the paper, so load the pad with plenty of ink and refill the pad often. For clear embossing on dark paper, it suggests coloring the paper or glossy card first, letting the ink dry, stamping with Dazzle and embossing with clear powder.

## What should you watch for?

**Clean the stamp before and after, and know that shimmer can rub off.** Tsukineko says to remove leftover ink and dirt from the stamp before use and wash it with stamp cleaner afterward. If the pad gets dirty, wipe the soiled part with kitchen paper and add ink from the re-inker. Depending on the paper, rubbing can remove the champagne sparkle or frost pearl.

## How does it compare with other Tsukineko pads?

**It is the only colorless pad here, so it pairs with powder rather than replacing a colored ink.** The face is 76 × 47 mm, the same as the [Delicata L](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/tsukineko-delicata-ink-pad/) and [Essential Glue Pad](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/tsukineko-essential-glue-pad/), but it dries in about 5 to 10 minutes on thin paper and holds embossing powder where the glue pad holds foil without heat. For a colored, fast-drying pigment pad, see [VersaFine Clair](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/tsukineko-versafine-clair-ink-pad/).

If you want a pad for dark paper that shines on its own, the Delicata line does that with water-based metallic ink, while Dazzle needs a dark or colored sheet and plenty of ink.

## Where is it made, and what does it cost?

**Tsukineko's page doesn't give a country of manufacture.** The company history lists a Yoshikawa, Saitama factory and a US subsidiary in Redmond, Washington, and says VersaMark Dazzle was announced in 2008. VersaMark L at 800 yen (about US$5.06) before tax falls in our $$ band ($5–20).

## Frequently asked questions

### What does VersaMark look like on paper?

It is colorless, so on plain paper it makes a darker, double-tone print, and on thin white paper it can make a watermark effect.

### What is VersaMark Dazzle?

A shimmering double-tone version: Champagne is a champagne-colored shimmer, and Frost shows a faint white pearl. Both are best on dark paper, per Tsukineko.

### How do you emboss with it?

Stamp, then cover with embossing powder. Tsukineko says VersaMark is ideal for powder, and fine pearl powders hold better than coarse glitter.

### How long does it take to dry?

About 5 to 10 minutes on thin woodfree paper, per Tsukineko; it varies with paper, weather and conditions.

### What is the resist technique?

On glossy paper, stamp with VersaMark, then use water-based dye ink over it; the stamped area stays white, per Tsukineko.

### How should you clean the stamps?

Tsukineko says to clean any ink or dirt off the stamp before use and to wash it off well with stamp cleaner afterward.

### How much does it cost and where is it made?

Tsukineko's list prices before tax are 800 yen (about US$5.06) for VersaMark L, in our $$ band ($5–20), 1,000 yen (about US$6.33) for Dazzle, and 620 to 660 yen for re-inkers. The page doesn't state a country of manufacture.
