- Made in (Tombow Aqua PiT Pentype glue pen (PT-WP)): Not stated. Tombow's product page lists capacities, part numbers and prices but no country of manufacture, so check the label on your copy. Tombow Pencil Co., Ltd. is a Tokyo company.

## Key takeaways

- The ballpoint-shaped glue pen draws a line from about 1 mm wide, good for details, edges and complex shapes.
- Tombow says a newly developed urethane adhesive bonds paper to glass, metal, rhinestones, buttons and cellophane, and to stiff card.
- It holds about 0.9 g (part number PT-WP) and costs 275 yen with tax, about US$1.74.
- The glue is smooth, not sticky on the fingers, and is weakly alkaline and acid free for albums and scrapbooks.
- It cannot bond very absorbent paper or cloth; the page gives no country of manufacture.

## What is Tombow Aqua PiT Pentype?

**It is a glue pen built like a ballpoint.** Tombow says you hold it like a pen and write with it, and the glue flows from about 1 mm wide. Because it is so fine, you can aim at details, edges and complex shapes. Tombow says the glue does not squeeze out or overflow, and you do not need to crush the container to get it out.

It is Tombow's strong liquid glue for mixed materials. For the twin-tip bottle, see the [Aqua PiT](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/tombow-aqua-pit-liquid-glue/), and for the two-way bottle, the [PiT Multi 2](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/tombow-pit-multi-2-liquid-glue/).

## What can it stick?

**Paper with glass, metal, rhinestones, buttons or cellophane.** Tombow credits a newly developed urethane component that links into a mesh, which it calls cross-linking, for the strong bond between paper and non-paper materials. It also bonds springy stiff card. Tombow suggests decorating paper with parts, but gives no strength figure.

## Is it safe for albums?

**Tombow says yes: acid free and weakly alkaline.** The glue is weakly alkaline, so long storage should not yellow or damage the items, which Tombow says suits albums and scrapbooking. It gives no photographic test.

## How do you use it?

**Hold the tip vertically, press lightly and draw slowly.** Tombow says to join the pieces right after applying glue and press firmly. If the glue comes out poorly, press the tip longer on the paper or tap it gently, without harming the tip. Clean off dust or glue and cap it after use. Adhesion time varies with the environment, and very absorbent paper or cloth cannot be bonded.

## How does it compare with the other Aqua PiT glues?

**It trades volume for precision.** The twin-tip [Aqua PiT](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/tombow-aqua-pit-liquid-glue/) holds 50 ml and covers paper work, with a refill; the Pentype holds about 0.9 g and is meant for fine lines and for materials such as glass, metal and rhinestones. The [PiT Multi 2](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/tombow-pit-multi-2-liquid-glue/) is the one to pick for a hold you can peel apart after drying.

## What are the limits?

**It is a joining glue, not a fixing glue for everything.** Tombow says the glue cannot bond paper or cloth that sucks up a lot of liquid, that adhesion time changes with the environment, and that it should not be used or left in high heat or below freezing. It must be used only for bonding, kept away from small children and capped after each use. Because Tombow quotes no strength test, treat heavy or load-bearing parts as untested.

## What does it cost?

**275 yen with tax for about 0.9 g.** That is about US$1.74 at 158 yen to the dollar, roughly 305 yen a gram by our arithmetic. It is a precision tool, not a bulk glue. Avoid heat or freezing, and use it only for bonding.

## Where is it made?

**Tombow's page doesn't state a country of manufacture.** The company is based in Tokyo, and the pen body uses at least 40 percent recycled plastic by weight excluding the glue. At 275 yen with tax the pen is in our $ band (under $5).

## Frequently asked questions

### How thin is the line?

About 1 mm, per Tombow.

### Which materials does it join?

Paper to paper and to glass, metal, rhinestones, buttons and cellophane, plus stiff card.

### Why is it strong?

Tombow says a new urethane component links up into a mesh structure, which gives the strong bond.

### Is it sticky on the fingers?

No. Tombow calls the glue runny and non-sticky, so it does not stay on your hands.

### Is it acid free?

Yes. Tombow says it is weakly alkaline, so it should not yellow or damage items over long storage.

### What should you not stick?

Very absorbent paper or cloth, which soaks the glue up too much.

### What is the technique?

Hold the tip vertically, press lightly and draw slowly, then join the pieces straight away and press firmly.
