Sonic's product page, its leaflet, RX Japan's winners page, Hands and DIME don't state a country of manufacture. ## Key takeaways - Sonic lists it at about 190 × 70 × 170 mm, with room inside for a phone up to about 180 × 95 × 25 mm. - Timer lock runs from 1 minute to 99 hours 59 minutes; Routine lock repeats daily, for example 23:00 to 7:00. - It costs ¥4,950 (about US$31) in Japan and runs on 3 AAA batteries, per Sonic and RX Japan. - It won the 2026 Bungu-ya-san Taishō desk storage award and a 35th Japan Stationery Award in the trend category. - On October 23, 2026, Amazon.com had the White version from a third-party seller, with 34 ratings. ## What is the Sonic Digitox The Routine? **It is a box with a translucent lid that locks a smartphone inside until a set time, sold by the Japanese stationery maker Sonic as a study aid.** Its full Japanese name is デジトックス ザ・ルーティン スマホ用 タイムロックケース, "Digitox The Routine smartphone time-lock case," model DG-2618. Sonic makes school and office supplies, and launched the Digitox brand ("digital detox") in February 2026 with two boxes: this timed one and the Block Case, which locks with a key you leave in another room. Sonic's release aims both at students studying for entrance exams. ## How do the two lock modes work? **Routine lock closes the box at the same hours every day; Timer lock closes it once, for as long as you set.** Sonic's examples are 23:00 to 7:00 for Routine and "two hours from now" for Timer. ![Two 24-hour bars: Routine lock shaded from 23:00 to 7:00 every day, Timer lock shaded for 2 hours from 19:00](https://stationerytimes.com/images/sonic-digitox-the-routine-modes.svg) *Sonic's two example schedules on one day.* In Routine mode the box flashes and beeps at the start time if the phone isn't inside, and unlocks itself at the end time. It also works as a clock and as a plain timer without locking. The emergency reset opens it, but sounds a one-minute alarm and leaves a RESET mark on screen for 24 hours. ## Digitox The Routine specs | Spec | Value | |---|---| | Model | DG-2618-W White, -B Blue, -P Pink | | Outer size | About 190 × 70 × 170 mm (7.5 × 2.8 × 6.7 in) | | Phone space | About 95 × 25 × 180 mm (3.7 × 1.0 × 7.1 in) | | Material | ABS body, polycarbonate lid | | Power | 3 AAA batteries | | Timer range | 1 min to 99 h 59 min | | Japan price | ¥4,950 (about US$31) with tax | All figures are from Sonic's product page except the batteries, from RX Japan's entry. It comes with goal stickers and a "smartphone contract" for parents and children to fill in. ## Why did stationery awards pick a phone box? **Because it solves a desk problem students have, and Japanese stationery awards judge what helps people study and work.** Shop staff voted it first in the desk storage category (卓上収納賞) of the Bungu-ya-san Taishō 2026, calling it a way to make a digital detox a habit. RX Japan then named it a trend winner of the 35th Japan Stationery Award in June 2026, noting that a physical lock works for people who gave up on app limits. It is the only product we found on both lists; see [every 2026 stationery award winner](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/stationery-awards-2026-winners/) and the [Bungu-ya-san Taishō 2026 winners](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/bungu-ya-san-taisho-2026-winners/). Sonic's release cites research finding that a phone on the desk reduces attention even when it is switched to silent, which is the case for putting it in a box rather than just turning it over. ## How is it different from the Digitox Block Case? **The Block Case locks with a key instead of a timer.** Sonic says you close the lid, it locks itself, and you leave the key in another room, using the idea that people put off anything that takes more than 20 seconds. | | The Routine (DG-2618) | Block Case (DG-2635) | |---|---|---| | Unlocks by | Timer or daily schedule | Key kept elsewhere | | Best for | Fixed study hours, bedtime | Family rules, quick breaks | | Bungu-ya-san 2026 desk storage | 1st | 3rd | Pick The Routine if you want the box to enforce a schedule without anyone holding a key. ## Can you buy it in the US? **Yes, as a Japan import: on October 23, 2026, Amazon.com listed the White version, sold by a third-party seller (Hachiyama Select) and shipped by Amazon.** It had 34 ratings and few left in stock, and the Blue and Pink were listed too. Import pricing puts it in our $$$ band ($20–75). If you want the whole desk to support focus, our [best desk accessories](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/best-desk-accessories/) covers the rest of the setup. ## Where is it made? **Sonic doesn't say.** Its product page and leaflet list materials and JAN codes but no country of manufacture. Sonic is based in Osaka. ## Frequently asked questions ### How do you set the Digitox The Routine?
