### San-X Sumikko Gurashi Matomaru-kun Eraser (Puru Puru Shabon) colors

- Body colors (2 standard, 0 special edition): Blue design (Pale blue sleeve with bubble artwork.); Lilac design (Pale lilac-pink sleeve with bubble artwork.).
- Per San-X Stationery Market page (product photo) (https://www.san-x.co.jp/en/special/goods_2611_bungu/), checked 2026-11-04. San-X shows two designs and gives no color names, so we call them by the sleeve's dominant tint. Tints were sampled from the maker's photo; the eraser block is drawn light cool gray. Shops stock different colors; check the listing.

## Key takeaways

- San-X lists each eraser at ¥187 (about US$1.20, at 158 yen to the dollar) including tax, in our $ band (under $5).
- There are 2 designs, a blue sleeve and a lilac sleeve, in the Puru Puru Shabon (bubble) theme released in 2026/11.
- San-X says the eraser has a cider scent in both of its 2 designs; the page does not say what the block is made of.
- The sleeve in San-X's own photo is printed Made in Japan, while the page text states no country of origin.
- San-X gives no size or weight, so the drawing here is by eye, and we have not tested how the block erases.

## What is the San-X Sumikko Gurashi Matomaru-kun eraser?

**It is a character eraser from San-X's November 2026 stationery line, sold in a blue or a lilac sleeve.** San-X is the Japanese maker of the Sumikko Gurashi characters, small creatures that like corners. Its Stationery Market page, filed under merchandise released in 2026/11, lists the eraser next to a notebook, caps, a ruler, scissors, stickers and a sharpener, all in the same bubble artwork. We read that page on November 4, 2026.

The printed theme name on the sleeves reads Puru Puru Shabon. In Japanese, *shabon* is a soap bubble and *puru puru* describes something that wobbles, so we read it as "wobbly bubbles". That is our translation, not San-X's.

## What does San-X say about the eraser?

**Very little beyond the price, the two designs and the scent.** The table is everything the maker's page states, plus what its photo shows.

| Item | San-X page |
|---|---|
| Price | ¥187 (about US$1.20, at 158 yen to the dollar) each, tax included |
| Designs | 2, a blue sleeve and a lilac sleeve |
| Scent | Cider |
| Size and weight | Not stated |
| Block material | Not stated |
| Release | Listed under 2026/11; subject to change |
| Price band ($ is under $5) | $ |

The sleeve in the photo also carries two item codes we read as KS65901 and KS65902, one per design, and the line Made in Japan. We cannot be sure of the codes from a photograph, so check them against the package.

## Who is the Matomaru-kun eraser for?

**It suits someone who wants a small, scented character eraser for a school or desk set, because San-X sells it for ¥187 (about US$1.20) in two designs.** The maker's page introduces the whole line as items for enjoying the new school term.

Skip it if you need a stated size, a known block material or a proven low-dust eraser: San-X publishes none of those, and we have not tested it. We leave out "Good for" tags because nothing in the page meets our evidence rules for them.

## What does the name Matomaru-kun mean?

**It is a Japanese brand name, and we read it as "the one that comes together".** The verb *matomaru* means to gather or be put together, and the sleeve shows the name with a registered-trademark mark. That mark means the name is protected, but San-X's page does not say who owns it.

Because the page is silent, we do not say the crumbs clump, that the eraser is low-dust or that it is made of any particular material. If you want a documented clumping eraser, our [Japanese eraser roundup](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/best-japanese-erasers/) lists ones with maker-stated features, such as the [Tombow MONO](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/tombow-mono-eraser/) and the [Seed Radar](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/seed-radar-eraser/).

## Does it really smell like cider?

**San-X says it has a cider scent, and in Japan "cider" usually means a clear fizzy soda, not apple juice.** So expect a sweet, soda-like note rather than an apple one, though the page gives no description of the smell.

A scented eraser leaves its smell on the paper only if the maker's scent is in the block, which the page does not say. We have not smelled it, so we cannot tell how strong it is or whether it fades.

## Which design should you choose?

**Pick the sleeve color you like; the page gives both the same price, scent and theme.** The blue sleeve is a pale sky blue and the lilac sleeve a pale pinkish lilac. Both show the same bubbles around the Sumikko Gurashi characters, which we do not reproduce.

If you buy the sharpener or scissors from the same line, the blue and lilac match across the range, so a matching set is easy. See the [San-X 2-way pencil sharpener](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/san-x-sumikko-gurashi-two-way-pencil-sharpener/) and the [San-X safety scissors](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/san-x-sumikko-gurashi-safety-scissors/).

## Where is it made, and what does it cost?

**Japan, according to the sleeve in San-X's photo.** The line Made in Japan is printed on the side. San-X's page text does not repeat it, and we have not handled a package.

San-X lists ¥187 (about US$1.20) including tax, at 158 yen to the dollar, in our $ band (under $5). That is the maker's price in Japan on November 4, 2026. We did not check overseas sellers or shipping; for how Japanese prices compare once they reach the US, see our [Japan and US price index](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/us-vs-japan-stationery-prices/).

## Who is San-X?

**San-X Co., Ltd. is a Japanese character-goods company that its own history page dates to 1932.** The page says it took the San-X name in 1973, introduced Rilakkuma in 2003 and Sumikko Gurashi in 2012, and its catalog page describes the products as manufactured and sold by San-X.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is the San-X Matomaru-kun eraser scented?

Yes. San-X's Stationery Market page says the eraser has a cider scent. It does not say how strong the scent is or how long it lasts, and we have not smelled one.

### How much does the Sumikko Gurashi Matomaru-kun eraser cost?

San-X lists ¥187 (about US$1.20) including tax per eraser on its November 2026 page, at 158 yen to the dollar. That is in our $ band (under $5). Overseas sellers set their own prices.

### How many designs does it come in?

Two. San-X's page shows a blue-sleeved eraser and a lilac-sleeved one, both printed with the Puru Puru Shabon bubble artwork. The page gives no color names.

### What size is the Matomaru-kun eraser?

San-X does not state one. Its page shows a small block in a card sleeve, but no dimensions or weight, so we do not give a figure and our drawing is by eye.

### Is the Sumikko Gurashi eraser made in Japan?

The sleeve in San-X's own photo is printed Made in Japan. The page's text states no country, so treat the sleeve as the statement and check the package you buy.

### Can I buy it outside Japan?

San-X's page points to Japanese shops and says the online shop's items, shipping and order rules may differ from stores. We could not open San-X's own net shop, so overseas availability is not confirmed.

### Does Matomaru-kun mean the crumbs stick together?

The name comes from a Japanese verb meaning to come together, which suggests clumping crumbs. San-X's page does not describe how the block behaves, so we do not claim it and have not tested it.
