- Cap, barrel and nib collar are recycled polypropylene, per Sailor.

## What is the Sailor SHIKIORI marker?

**It's a twin-tip water-based marker in the colors of Sailor's Shikiori fountain pen inks.** One end has a brush tip with what Sailor calls moderate firmness, and the other a fine round tip for small writing.

Shikiori, "woven four seasons", is Sailor's series of seasonal stationery. Sailor says the markers let you enjoy a favorite fountain pen ink color in a different texture, for example on New Year's cards or alongside a fountain pen.

## Which colors are there?

**Twenty, five for each season, named for the same Shikiori inks.** Yamadori, the teal we cover in our [Shikiori Yama-dori ink guide](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/sailor-shikiori-yama-dori/), is one of the autumn five.

Sailor's page lists the colors by kanji with codes 201 to 220, and the season grouping comes from Papeterie Makkura's listing of the 20-color set. Sailor also sells five-color seasonal packs in Japan.

## How do you use the two tips?

**Use the brush for headings, color blocks and lettering, and the fine round tip for small writing.** Sailor describes the brush as having moderate firmness and the round tip as best for detailed writing.

Sailor suggests the markers for the season when handwriting picks up, such as New Year's cards, and for use alongside a fountain pen. Its Japanese page also links free SHIKIORI coloring pages to fill in with them.

## Is it the same ink as the fountain pen ink?

**No.** Sailor says the marker uses a water-based dye ink that reproduces the color of each fountain pen ink, but the ingredients are different.

So the markers aren't a way to sample how a bottled ink will look in a pen. Shading, sheen and flow from a nib will differ from a felt or brush tip, and we haven't compared them side by side yet.

## How does it compare to other twin-tip brush markers?

**It's a slimmer palette chosen around fountain pen inks, where most twin markers chase color count.**

| Marker | Tips | Colors | Ink |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sailor SHIKIORI | Brush + fine round | 20 | Water-based dye |
| [Tombow Dual Brush](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/tombow-dual-brush-pen/) | Nylon brush + 0.8 mm fine | 108 | Water-based dye |
| [Kuretake ZIG Clean Color Real Brush](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/kuretake-zig-clean-color-real-brush/) | Polyester bristle brush | Sets up to 120 | Water-based dye |

Pick the SHIKIORI for its muted seasonal colors or to match a Sailor ink you already use. Pick a Tombow or Kuretake for blending and a bigger range.

## How much does it cost?

**About the price of a good gel pen.** Sailor Japan's suggested price is ¥330 (about US$2.10) each with tax.

Sailor sells the markers three ways in Japan: singles, five-color packs and the 20-color set. Its page links each pack, and Yodobashi lists a five-color summer pack as 25-5101-002.

On October 29, 2026, Yoseka Stationery listed single markers at US$3.50 in all 20 colors, plus a set of 20. That puts a single in our $ band, under $5.

## Where is the SHIKIORI marker made?

**Sailor doesn't say.** Its product page lists materials and codes but not the country of manufacture, and the shops we read don't state it either.

Sailor itself is a Japanese company founded in 1911 and majority-owned by PLUS since May 2022, as our [story on PLUS, Sailor and Pentel](https://stationerytimes.com/stories/plus-corporation-sailor-pentel/) explains.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is the SHIKIORI marker the same ink as Sailor's fountain pen ink?

No. Sailor says the markers use a water-based dye ink that reproduces the color of each Shikiori fountain pen ink, but the ingredients differ, so don't refill a fountain pen from one.

### Does the SHIKIORI marker have a brush tip?

Yes, at one end. Sailor describes it as a brush with moderate firmness, paired with a fine round tip at the other end for small writing.

### How many SHIKIORI marker colors are there?

Twenty, five per season, matching the core Shikiori ink colors such as Yamadori, Yozakura and Shigure. Sailor sells singles, five-color packs and a 20-color set.

### Can you buy SHIKIORI markers in the US?

Yes, from importers. Yoseka Stationery listed all 20 colors as single markers and a set of 20 on October 29, 2026; singles sit in our $ band, under $5.

### Are SHIKIORI markers good for journaling?

Yoseka recommends them for journaling, and the twin tip covers headings and small notes. We haven't tested bleed or ghosting yet, so try one on your notebook's back page first.

### When did Sailor release the SHIKIORI marker?

Yoseka says Sailor introduced it in December 2018. Sailor's product page doesn't give a date, so we treat that as the retailer's figure.
