## What is Q&A a Day?

**Q&A a Day: 5-Year Journal is a question-a-day diary: each page has a date, one question and five short answer spaces, one for each year.** You answer today's question, then come back to the same page next year.

Penguin Random House publishes it under its Potter Style imprint (now credited to Potter Gift) and dates the original edition to November 23, 2010. Its own summary is "365 questions, 5 years, 1,825 answers". Questions range from light ("On a scale of one to ten, how happy are you?") to reflective.

Penguin Random House and Christianbook give the nominal 4 × 6 in (102 × 152 mm) trim. Falter and Amazon list the book itself at about 110 × 161 mm, which includes the hardcover boards, so we use the Falter figure in the drawings and will measure a copy.

![To-scale drawing of the Q&A a Day 5-Year Journal, 110 × 161 mm, against an A6 outline of 105 × 148 mm and an A5 outline of 148 × 210 mm](https://stationerytimes.com/images/qa-a-day-5-year-journal-size.svg)

*Q&A a Day is just larger than A6 and much smaller than an A5 journal.*

## How does a Q&A a Day page work?

**Each page shows the date, that day's question and five spaces to write in, each starting "20__" for the year.** Scary Mommy's review describes the same layout: date, question, five spaces.

The spaces are short, a few lines each, so most answers are a sentence or two. From the second year on, last year's answer sits just above the space you are writing in.

Because the pages carry no year, you can start on any date. You only need to find today's page.

## How big is Q&A a Day?

**At about 110 × 161 mm (4.3 × 6.3 in), it is a pocket-paperback size, slightly larger than A6.** It fits in most handbags but not a jeans pocket.

It is far smaller than A5 five-year books such as the [Leuchtturm1917 Some Lines a Day](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/leuchtturm1917-some-lines-a-day/), which gives each day a 145 × 210 mm page.

## How does Q&A a Day compare to other five-year journals?

**Q&A a Day is the one with prompts; most five-year memory books give you blank lines and leave the subject to you.**

| | Q&A a Day | Leuchtturm1917 Some Lines a Day |
|---|---|---|
| Prompt | One question per date | None |
| Size | 110 × 161 mm | 145 × 210 mm (A5) |
| Pages | 368 | 365 |
| Answers per page | 5 | 5 |
| Extras | — | Elastic, two ribbons, pocket |
| Price band | $$ | $$$ |

If you would rather write a full page each day, a one-year book such as the [Stalogy 365 Days Notebook](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/stalogy-365-days-notebook/) or the [Hobonichi Techo Original](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/hobonichi-techo-original/) gives you much more room. Our [best 2027 journals guide](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/best-2027-journals/) compares dated diaries. For a dated five-year book with a free page facing each date, see the [Hobonichi 5-Year Techo](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/hobonichi-5-year-techo/).

## Which Q&A a Day edition should you choose?

**Buy the original 5-Year Journal for yourself; Potter also sells versions for teens and kids, and the same prompts in new cover designs.**

- **Q&A a Day for Me** is written for teens; **Q&A a Day for Kids** is a three-year journal with simpler questions, per Penguin Random House's sales sheet.
- **Spots**, **Modern** and **Graffiti** are later editions with new covers; Eagle Eye Books describes Spots as the original prompts with a textile designer's patterns.
- Penguin's regional sites list cover names such as Woodland and Tropical under the original ISBN, so check the cover photo before you order.

## Is Q&A a Day popular?

**Yes. Penguin Random House's 2019 sales sheet says the Q&A a Day series had sold over 1.3 million copies.** That figure covers the whole series, not just the 5-Year Journal.

The book has stayed in print since 2010 and is stocked by many US booksellers and gift shops.

## Where is Q&A a Day printed?

**Penguin Random House, Amazon and the other listings we read don't say where it is printed.** Potter Style is a US imprint of Penguin Random House; check the copyright page of your copy for a Printed in line.
