# Pilot CON-70N Converter: 1.1 ml Push-Button Fill

> The Pilot CON-70N is Pilot's larger push-button converter for cartridge fountain pens. Pilot Japan lists it at 80 mm long, 9 mm across and 1.1 ml of ink, against 60 mm and 0.4 ml for the twist CON-40. It fits many larger Pilot pens such as the Custom 74, and US shops sell it as the CON-70.

## Product facts

| Product | Brand | Brand origin | Made in | Material | Released | Price range (typical US retail, October 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pilot CON-70N converter | Pilot (by Pilot Corporation (Japan); sold in the US by Pilot Corporation of America) | Japan | Not stated | – | – | $$: $5–20 per item |

- Made in (Pilot CON-70N converter): Not stated. Pilot Japan's web catalog entry lists size, capacity, JAN and price but no country of manufacture, and the Goulet Pens and Yoseka listings we read don't give one either. Source: https://webcatalog.pilot.co.jp/products/DispDetail.do?volumeName=00004&itemID=t000100002533

## Key takeaways

- Pilot Japan lists the CON-70N at 80 mm (3.1 in) long and 9 mm across, with a 1.1 ml ink capacity.
- The CON-40 twist converter is 60 mm long and holds 0.4 ml by Pilot's figures, so the CON-70N holds about 2.75 times as much.
- Pilot Japan's list price is ¥1,100 (about US$7) with tax; US shops sell it in our $$ band, $5–20.
- Goulet Pens says it fits the Custom 74, Explorer, Justus 95, Kakuno and Metal Falcon, plus several Namiki series.
- Goulet's 2013 test measured an older CON-70 at about 1.0 ml, a little under Pilot's rating.

## What is the Pilot CON-70N?

**It is Pilot's push-button converter: a refillable ink reservoir that replaces a cartridge so you can fill from a bottle.** Pilot Japan's catalog calls it an ink filler for cartridge fountain pens that works by プッシュ式 (push) action, and says some Pilot products can't use it.

Yoseka and Goulet Pens sell it in the US as the CON-70. Pilot Japan's CON-70N page says its how-to video uses the older CON-70, and Goulet says the current converter had a slight design change, so we treat the CON-70N as the current version of the CON-70. We couldn't confirm which model a given US pack contains.

## Pilot CON-70N specs

| Spec | Value |
|---|---|
| Maker | Pilot Corporation, Japan |
| Model / JAN | CON-70N / 4902505602801 |
| Mechanism | Push-button filler (Pilot Japan) |
| Size | 80 mm (3.1 in) long, 9 mm (0.35 in) across (Pilot Japan) |
| Capacity | 1.1 ml (Pilot Japan, Goulet); about 1.0 ml measured for the older CON-70 (Goulet, 2013) |
| Japanese list price | ¥1,100 (about US$7) incl. tax |
| US price read November 1, 2026 | US$14 (Yoseka), US$15 (Goulet Pens) |
| Price band | $$ ($5–20) |

## How is the CON-70N different from the CON-40?

**It is longer, wider and holds almost three times as much ink, but it fits fewer pens.** By Pilot Japan's figures the CON-40 is 60 mm long and 7.2 mm across and holds 0.4 ml; the CON-70N is 80 mm and 9 mm and holds 1.1 ml. Our [CON-40 guide](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/pilot-con-40-converter/) covers the twist model.

*The CON-40 and CON-70N side by side at 1 mm = 8 px; the capacities are Pilot Japan's ratings. Original illustration made for this guide. © Stationery Times.*

Both are rated by Pilot, but capacity in use is lower: Goulet filled each converter short of the brim in 2013, and measured about 1.0 ml for an older CON-70 and 0.61 ml for the CON-40. Use Pilot's figures to compare them, not to predict pages per fill.

## Which pens does the CON-70N fit?

**Larger Pilot cartridge pens: Goulet lists the Custom 74, Explorer, Justus 95, Kakuno and Metal Falcon, plus Namiki's Chinkin, Nippon Art, Yukari and Yukari Royale series.** Pilot Japan's Kakuno page also lists the CON-70N, and our guides cover the [Custom 74](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/pilot-custom-74/), [Kakuno](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/pilot-kakuno/) and [Falcon](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/pilot-falcon/).

| Pen | CON-70 / 70N? | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Pilot Custom 74 | Yes | Goulet; our Custom 74 guide |
| Pilot Kakuno | Yes | Goulet; Pilot Japan's catalog |
| Metal Falcon | Yes | Goulet |
| Pilot Metropolitan | Not confirmed | Not on Goulet's list |

Pilot adds that some products can't use it. In 2013 Goulet said the CON-70 fit only the Custom 74 and Metal Falcon, and its list has grown since.

## How do you use the push button?

**Dip the nib in ink up to its neck and press the button to draw ink in.** That is how Pilot Japan describes the push-type filler; it publishes a video of the older CON-70.

For general filling steps and cleaning between inks, see our [how to fill a fountain pen](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/how-to-fill-a-fountain-pen/) guide. For how converters compare in general, read [fountain pen converters explained](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/fountain-pen-converters-explained/).

## Who is the CON-70N for?

**Owners of a larger Pilot cartridge pen who want to use bottled ink with fewer refills.** Capacity is the main reason: 1.1 ml by Pilot's rating against 0.4 ml for the CON-40.

Skip it if your pen is a slim Pilot that takes only the CON-40 or a cartridge, and check your pen's listing first.

## Where is the CON-70N made, and what does it cost?

**Pilot doesn't say where it is made.** The catalog entry names no factory country, and neither do the US listings we read.

Pilot Japan lists ¥1,100 (about US$7) with tax. In the US, Yoseka listed it at US$14 and Goulet Pens at US$15 on November 1, 2026, both in our $$ band. The gap suggests US prices carry import costs, but we haven't confirmed that.

## Frequently asked questions

### How much ink does the Pilot CON-70N hold?

Pilot Japan lists 1.1 ml, and Goulet Pens lists the same figure as its maximum. Goulet's 2013 test of an older CON-70 measured about 1.0 ml.

### Is the CON-70 the same as the CON-70N?

Probably the current version of it: Pilot Japan's CON-70N page says its video shows the older CON-70, and Goulet says the current CON-70 had a slight design change. We couldn't confirm that US stock is the N model.

### Will the CON-70N fit my Pilot Metropolitan?

We couldn't confirm it. Goulet's fit list names larger pens such as the Custom 74 and Kakuno, and Pilot says some products can't use it, so check your pen's listing.

### How do you fill a CON-70N?

Pilot Japan says to dip the nib in the ink up to the neck and draw ink in with the push button.

### CON-70N or a cartridge for more ink?

Goulet measured a Pilot cartridge at about 0.9 ml in 2013, so the 1.1 ml converter holds a bit more and lets you use bottled ink.

### Does the CON-70N come with Pilot pens?

Some Pilot pens, such as the Custom 74, are listed with the CON-70 as a filler option, but we haven't checked every box; the converter is also sold on its own.

### Is the CON-70N cheaper in Japan?

Pilot Japan lists ¥1,100 (about US$7) with tax, while the two US shops we read sit in our $$ band, $5–20, on November 1, 2026. We haven't compared shipping or fees.
