## What is the Otto Hutt design 06?

**It is Otto Hutt's largest fountain pen of the three we cover, built around a rounded, organic form.** The maker says it combines a renowned original with innovation, and that its newly cut contours and surfaces are milled with special diamond tools. The slimmer siblings are [design 01](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/otto-hutt-design-01-fountain-pen/) and [design 04](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/otto-hutt-design-04-fountain-pen/). For other premium pens, see our [best luxury pens](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/best-luxury-pens/) roundup.

## What are its size, weight and materials?

**Otto Hutt lists 140 mm capped, 122 mm open, 14 mm across and about 44.9 g.** The barrel and cap sleeves are solid aluminium, with a colored lacquer, several coatings and a last lacquer coat that Otto Hutt says gives an especially pleasant feel. The fittings on the Arctic blue pen are platinum coated.

## What nibs does it offer?

**Steel as standard, 18-carat gold on request.** Both come in extra fine, fine, medium and broad with the Otto Hutt logo, and a converter is included. See [fountain pen nib sizes explained](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/fountain-pen-nib-sizes-explained/) for what the widths mean, and [how to fill a fountain pen](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/how-to-fill-a-fountain-pen/) for the converter.

## What colors and prices does it come in?

**Sixteen color names, from €215 (about US$241) with a steel nib.** On October 31, 2026 Otto Hutt's shop data listed black, rose, red, white and pistachio in gloss at €215 (about US$241); the same pens with a gold medium nib were €380 (about US$426). That puts it in our $$$$ band (over $75). Conversions use US$1.12 to the euro; Otto Hutt notes shipping, tax and customs duties are extra.

## What comes in the box?

**A converter, a cleaning cloth, instructions and a certificate.** Otto Hutt's page lists a matching converter for your own ink, a silver or microfiber cleaning cloth, the instructions and a certificate. Choose the nib in the configurator before ordering: the page we read defaulted to a medium steel nib. For how a converter works, see [fountain pen converters explained](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/fountain-pen-converters-explained/).

## How is the nib checked?

**Otto Hutt says every pen gets a writing test.** Its craftsmanship page says nibs are tested for function, line width and how well they guide, and that each pen is inspected by hand before it can carry the Made in Germany label. We haven't tested a sample ourselves yet, so treat this as the maker's claim.

## How does it compare with designs 01 and 04?

**It is the biggest, heaviest and most colorful of the three.** At 14 mm across and about 44.9 g it is wider than design 04 (11.8 mm, about 38.7 g) and design 01 (10.1 mm, about 25.3 g). Otto Hutt's steel-nib prices start at €215 (about US$241), close to design 04's €220 (about US$246) and above design 01's €150 (about US$168).

## Where does the design come from?

**Otto Hutt's timeline places design 06 in a 2016 redevelopment.** It says designs 05, 06 and 07 were redeveloped in 2016 with an outside product designer, and the 2019 entry repeats the line. The company itself dates to 1920 and was founded in Pforzheim; its founder was a follower of the Bauhaus movement, which the maker says still shapes its form-follows-function approach.

## Is every pen unique?

**Otto Hutt says each pen carries a six-digit code engraved in the cap**, with room for your own engraving on the clip or beside it.

## Where is design 06 made?

**In Germany, per Otto Hutt.** Its English home page says production happens only at its Black Forest site, and that Faber-Castell acquired the brand in 2023; see [Faber-Castell's history](https://stationerytimes.com/stories/faber-castell-history/).

## Frequently asked questions

### Why is design 06 so heavy for its size?

Otto Hutt makes the barrel and cap sleeves from solid aluminium, and lists about 44.9 g. That is about 20 g more than design 01, which has a brass body.

### Does it come with a gold nib?

Steel is standard, and Otto Hutt offers an 18-carat gold nib on request in extra fine, fine, medium and broad. In the data we read it added €165 (about US$185).

### What fills the pen?

Otto Hutt's page says a matching converter for your own ink is included. It doesn't name a cartridge standard.

### Is the clip special?

Otto Hutt calls it an elaborately made, organically shaped spring clip, and gives the fittings of the Arctic blue model as platinum coated.

### Who designed it?

Otto Hutt's timeline lists a redevelopment of designs 05, 06 and 07 with an outside product designer in 2016. Its product page doesn't credit a person for design 06, so we don't.

### Can I engrave it?

Yes, on the clip or 90 degrees to the right of it, added in the order summary. Otto Hutt also engraves its own code in the cap.

### Is it larger than design 04?

Yes: 140 mm against 132 mm capped, 14 mm against 11.8 mm across, and about 44.9 g against 38.7 g.
