## What is Noodler's Liberty's Elysium?

**It's a bright, true blue fountain pen ink that Noodler's made for Goulet Pens, and that only Goulet sells.** Brian Goulet's launch review, dated May 23, 2012, says the brief was a vibrant bulletproof blue on par with Noodler's Blue.

Brian Goulet wrote that fans expected it to be dubbed "Goulet blue", matching the ink splatter in Goulet's logo. On October 22, 2026, it was No. 65 on Goulet Pens' best-seller list.

## Liberty's Elysium specs

## Is Liberty's Elysium waterproof?

**It's water-resistant, but no longer sold as fully bulletproof.** Goulet's current listing says water-resistant and semi-bulletproof, and notes the label changed in August 2022.

At launch, Goulet explained that Noodler's bulletproof inks bond to the cellulose in paper, and showed the ink holding against household bleach. Some ink still sits on the surface, so a wet page can smudge before the line sets.

## How does it compare with Baystate Blue?

**Baystate Blue is brighter and more purple; Liberty's Elysium is more permanent and easier to live with.** That is Brian Goulet's own comparison in his 2012 review.

[Noodler's Baystate Blue](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/noodlers-baystate-blue/) is known for staining pens and shouldn't be mixed with other inks. For a gentle standard blue, see [Waterman Serenity Blue](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/waterman-serenity-blue/); for Noodler's permanent black, [Noodler's Black](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/noodlers-black-ink/).

## Does it dry fast?

**Not on coated paper.** Brian Goulet found that it takes a little while to dry on ink-resistant paper such as Rhodia, because a saturated ink has to soak in before it bonds.

On absorbent office paper it sinks in faster. One Fountain Pen Network reviewer found it can feather and show through on the cheapest papers, no more than other saturated inks.

## Which pens can use it?

**Any fountain pen that takes bottled ink.** It's not iron gall, pigmented or shimmering, per Goulet's spec sheet, so it cleans out with water like most dye inks.

The wide 23.6 mm opening takes most nibs. For more picks by use, see our [best fountain pen inks](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/best-fountain-pen-inks/).

## Is it good for writing cheques and forms?

**That's the job it was made for: a bright blue that resists water and tampering.** Brian Goulet's 2012 bleach test showed the ink holding while the paper itself broke down.

Its label now says semi-bulletproof, so treat it as water-resistant rather than fully permanent. For signatures, addresses on envelopes and notes that may get wet, it's a safer blue than a standard dye ink such as Waterman Serenity Blue.

## How does Goulet describe the colour?

**A brilliant true blue, not a blue-black.** Goulet's listing calls it a brilliant true blue, and the 2012 review says the only other bulletproof blues, Noodler's Bad Belted Kingfisher and Bad Blue Heron, are much darker.

Close colour matches such as Noodler's Blue, Diamine Asa Blue and Private Reserve American Blue aren't waterproof, per the same review. Goulet sells samples, so you can try the colour before buying the 3 oz bottle.

## Where is Liberty's Elysium made?

**In the USA, by Noodler's in Massachusetts.** Noodler's About Us page says its ink is 100% made in the USA, from cap to glass to ink.

The label is in Noodler's usual style, with a history theme: Goulet says it was inspired by Patrick Henry and also features Mary Dyer and Nathan Hale. Another Noodler's favorite on Goulet's best-seller list is the shading orange [Noodler's Southwest Sunset](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/noodlers-southwest-sunset/).
