Midori's online store lists size, count and material but not the country of manufacture, and the Amazon US listing doesn't state it either. ## Key takeaways - A pack holds 48 labels: 24 colours, 2 sheets each, per Midori. - Each label is 9 × 19 mm (0.35 × 0.75 in) open and folds to leave a 2.5 mm tab past the page edge. - The part on the page is semi-transparent, so writing underneath stays readable, per Midori. - The labels are repositionable PET film; the pack measures 180 × 78 mm and costs ¥308 (about US$1.90) in Japan. - Its Amazon US listing (82469006) had 360 ratings on October 22, 2026. ## What is the Midori Chiratto Index Label? **It's a sheet of tiny index stickers that fold over a page edge and leave only a 2.5 mm coloured tab showing.** "Chiratto" is Japanese for a quick peek, which describes how little of the tab shows. Midori made it for planners with covers. Standard index labels stick out past the cover, so they bend and fray as the planner travels; a 2.5 mm tab stays tucked inside. ## How does a Chiratto label work? **You fold the 19 mm label in half over the page edge: the clear half sits on the page and the coloured half wraps the edge, with 2.5 mm showing.** Midori says the adhesive part is semi-transparent, so it doesn't hide what's written underneath. ![One Chiratto Index Label to scale, 19 × 9 mm open with its fold line, and folded over a page edge with a 2.5 mm tab](https://stationerytimes.com/images/midori-chiratto-index-label-size.svg) *One label at 1 mm = 12 px, open and folded on a page.* The labels are repositionable, so you can move a tab to next month or fix a crooked one. ## Midori Chiratto Index Label specs | Spec | Value | |---|---| | Brand | Midori (Designphil Inc., Tokyo) | | Item | Chiratto Index Label S, 24 Vivid colours, 82469006 | | Count | 48 labels: 24 colours × 2 sheets | | Label size | 9 × 19 mm (0.35 × 0.75 in) open | | Tab showing | 2.5 mm | | Material | PET film, repositionable, semi-transparent on the page | | Pack size | 180 × 78 × 1 mm (7.1 × 3.1 in) | | Japan price | ¥308 (about US$1.90), tax included | | Price band | $$ ($5–20) as a US import | ## How do you set up tabs in a planner? **Use one colour per month or section and stagger the tabs down the fore-edge so each stays visible.** With 24 colours, you can give each month its own and still have colours left for projects. 1. Close the planner and mark where each tab should sit, top to bottom. 2. Fold a label over the page edge at that height, clear half on the page. 3. Press both sides flat; re-peel and move it if it's crooked. ## Chiratto label or Chiratto clip: which should you choose? **The labels are cheaper and come in 24 colours; the [Chiratto Index Clips](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/midori-chiratto-index-clip/) are copper, reusable without adhesive, and move as often as you like.** | | Chiratto Index Label | Chiratto Index Clip | |---|---|---| | Attaches by | Repositionable sticker | Copper spring clip | | Count | 48 | 8 | | Colours | 24 | Metal finishes | | Tab | 2.5 mm | 2.5 mm (M) | | Japan price | ¥308 (about US$1.90) | ¥770 (about US$4.90) | For decorative planner stickers rather than tabs, see [Midori Planner Stickers](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/midori-planner-stickers/) or our [journaling stickers roundup](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/best-journaling-stickers-and-washi-tape/). ## Which planners does it suit? **Any planner or notebook whose cover is a little larger than its pages, which covers most covered A5 and A6 planners.** The cover's overhang is what hides and protects the 2.5 mm tab. That includes cloth or leather covers on a [Hobonichi Techo](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/hobonichi-techo-original/) and notebooks in slip-on covers. On a bare softcover notebook the tabs still work as colour markers, but nothing shields them. Because each label folds around the page, it marks the page on both sides, so you can find the section from the front or the back of the book. ## What are the downsides? **A 2.5 mm tab shows colour, not words, so you have to remember what each colour means.** If you like to label tabs with text, a standard index tab or [Post-it Flags](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/post-it-flags-680/) hold writing better, though they stick out past the cover. On a planner without a cover overhang, the short tab saves little. In the US the pack is an import, so it costs more than its Japanese price. ## Where are Midori Chiratto Index Labels made? **Midori doesn't say.** Its online store lists the size, count and PET material but no country of manufacture, and the Amazon US listing doesn't state one. Midori is a brand of Designphil Inc., based in Tokyo. ## Frequently asked questions ### Why are Chiratto index tabs so short? So they stay inside a planner's cover. Midori says ordinary index labels stick out past the cover and get damaged, while a 2.5 mm tab is hidden by the cover's overhang. ### Can you move Chiratto Index Labels? Yes. Midori says they are repositionable, so you can peel one off and stick it on another page. ### Can you write on Chiratto Index Labels? There's little room on a 2.5 mm tab. The part on the page is semi-transparent, so what you wrote there still shows; we haven't tested which pens write on the PET film. ### How many colours come in a Chiratto label pack? 24 vivid colours, with two labels of each, for 48 in total, per Midori. ### Do Chiratto labels fit a Hobonichi Techo? They fit any page with a cover that overhangs the pages, which includes Hobonichi Techo covers. Midori designed them for covered planners in general rather than one brand. ### Are Midori Chiratto Index Labels made in Japan? Midori doesn't say. Its online store and the Amazon US listing give no country of manufacture. (Designphil press release introducing Chiratto Index S and the clips; seen in search results)](https://www.designphil.co.jp/information/press/entry-898/) - [Amazon US: Midori Chiratto Index Label S, 82469006, Vivid 24 colours (48 pieces, 9 × 19 mm; ratings read October 22, 2026)](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VLL3V5G)
