It is the single-piece version of the folding [Aluminum Multi Ruler](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/midori-aluminum-multi-ruler/). ## What are the specs? **155 × 18.5 × 3 mm.** Midori lists: | Item | Value | |---|---| | Body | 155 × 18.5 × 3 mm | | Package | 183 × 23 × 3 mm | | Material | Aluminum | | Part number | 42255006 (Silver); black 42256006; brown 42288006 | | Price | 440 yen with tax (about US$2.78) | ## What makes it easy to use? **An engraved scale, an edge scale and a grip pattern.** The scale is laser engraved, so it should last. A second scale starts from the end, which makes depth, height and distance easier to measure. The surface you press with your hand has a wave pattern, which Midori says is designed so the ruler does not slide, and the shape is easy to pick up off a desk. ## Is aluminum better than plastic for rulers? **For cutting, Midori says it suits the job.** The page says the aluminum is light and durable and suitable for use with a cutter. We have not tested this, so treat it as Midori's claim. ## How does it compare with the aluminum and wood ruler? **It is plainer and cheaper.** The [aluminum and wood ruler](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/midori-aluminum-wood-ruler-15-cm/) adds beech wood and a second scale for 550 yen, 110 yen more. For a different style of ruler see the [Midori Clip Ruler](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/midori-clip-ruler/). ## Which color should you pick? **Silver, black or brown, at the same price.** Midori lists silver (42255006), black (42256006) and brown (42288006) at 440 yen each. We read the silver page only, so we cannot say whether the black and brown share its finish. The 155 mm body is a little longer than the 150 mm of scale, by our arithmetic, so a 15 cm measurement fits comfortably. ## Will the price change? **Possibly, soon.** On the day we read the page, Midori's store said it was running system maintenance for a price revision, that purchases were paused from 5 pm on October 30 until 11 am on November 2, and that sales at the current price ended at the start of that pause. So the yen price here is the pre-revision price, and the new one may differ. Check the store before you budget. ## Who is it for? **People who want a metal-edged 15 cm ruler at a low price.** At 440 yen (about US$2.78) it sits in our $ band, and Midori says the aluminum is suitable for use with a cutter. Skip it if you need a ruler that folds or measures angles: the [Aluminum Multi Ruler](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/midori-aluminum-multi-ruler/) is Midori's next step. ## Where is it made, and what does it cost? **Midori calls it a Japanese-made ruler.** The description says so in plain words, though the page has no separate origin line. At 440 yen with tax (about US$2.78) it is in our $ band (under $5). For a longer metal ruler with both centimeter and inch scales, see the [Möbius + Ruppert aluminium ruler 30 cm](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/mobius-ruppert-aluminium-ruler-30-cm/).
