# Majohn A1: Retractable Nib, Size & Converter Fit

> The Majohn A1 is a Chinese retractable fountain pen with a metal body: press the end button and an extra-fine steel nib clicks out, laid out like Pilot's Vanishing Point. Majohn's Amazon US listing gives about 138 mm, 13 mm and 30 g, with a converter in the box. It sits in our $$$ band.

## Product facts

| Product | Brand | Brand origin | Made in | Material | Released | Price range (typical US retail, October 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Majohn A1 press fountain pen, matte black with clip, Extra Fine nib | Majohn | China | Not stated | Metal body; steel nib (Amazon US listing) | – | $$$: $20–75 per pen (multi-packs divided by the count) |

- Made in (Majohn A1 press fountain pen, matte black with clip, Extra Fine nib): Not stated. The Amazon US listing we read on October 23, 2026 (sold by the erofa store) doesn't state a country of manufacture, and we couldn't find a Majohn maker page in Chinese or English that does. Majohn is a Chinese brand; check the box.

## Key takeaways

- Majohn's Amazon US listing gives the A1 at about 138 mm (5.4 in) long, about 13 mm across and about 30 g.
- The listing's nib is an extra fine steel nib of about 0.38 mm, sold as 0.4 mm in the title.
- The matte black A1 with clip had 331 Amazon US ratings on October 23, 2026, averaging 4.2 stars.
- Versions include clip and no-clip bodies, a gold clip, a white stripe and a blue finish, all listed by the same Amazon store.
- One Fountain Pen Network member found that Pilot's Capless nib unit fits inside the A1 body.

## What is the Majohn A1?

**It's a metal-bodied retractable fountain pen from the Chinese brand Majohn, built on the same plan as Pilot's Vanishing Point.** Press the end button and the nib comes out through a door in the nose; press again and it retracts.

Majohn was known as Moonman; reviewers write "Moonman/Majohn" for the same company. Toga's Stationery Vagaries dates the A1 to late 2021, describing it as a Capless clone at a fraction of the price.

It is one of the best-selling budget retractables in the US. The matte black A1 with clip had 331 ratings on Amazon US and the clipless version 264 when we checked on October 23, 2026.

## Majohn A1 specs

| Spec | Majohn A1 (Amazon US listing) |
|---|---|
| Length | About 138 mm (5.4 in) |
| Diameter | About 13 mm (0.51 in) |
| Weight | About 30 g |
| Body | Metal |
| Nib | Extra fine steel, about 0.38 mm (0.4 mm in the title) |
| Filling | Converter (included) with bottled ink |
| In the box | Pen, converter, gift box |

These figures come from Majohn's own product description on the Amazon listing, sold by the erofa store. We couldn't find a Majohn maker page with specs in Chinese or English, so treat them as approximate, as the listing does.

## How does the Majohn A1 compare to the Vanishing Point and the Curidas?

**It is about the size and weight of a Pilot Vanishing Point, and shorter and heavier than Platinum's resin Curidas.** The table uses each maker's or retailer's published figures.

| | Majohn A1 | Pilot Vanishing Point | Platinum Curidas |
|---|---|---|---|
| Length | About 138 mm (5.4 in) | 140 mm (5.5 in) | 153 mm (6.0 in) |
| Diameter | About 13 mm | 13 mm | 13.8 mm |
| Weight | About 30 g | About 30 g | 24.0 g |
| Nib | Steel EF | 18k gold | Steel EF, F, M |
| Price band | $$$ | $$$$ | $$$ |

*Three retractables with the nib in, drawn to one scale.*

The [Pilot Vanishing Point](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/pilot-vanishing-point/) has the gold nib and Pilot's quality control. The [Platinum Curidas](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/platinum-curidas/) is the Japanese-made budget alternative, with the clip at the back instead.

## Can the A1 use Pilot parts?

**Owners report that Pilot's Capless nib unit fits the A1.** One Fountain Pen Network member wrote that the only difference he could spot was a middle ring a millimetre bigger, and that the Pilot internal module fit perfectly.

Converters are less clear-cut. Another member put a Pilot CON-50 into his A1 and said it "didn't just work"; he went back to the supplied cartridge in its metal shell. The Amazon listing we read ships with its own converter.

## What versions of the Majohn A1 are there?

**The same Amazon store lists clip and no-clip bodies in matte black, a gold-clip version, a white-stripe version and a blue finish.** The clip, when fitted, sits at the nib end so it doesn't get in the way of the button.

A reviewer at Pensane owns the stealth all-black with clip and a clipless white with silver trim. The original listings offer EF; newer ones from the same store, such as the gold-clip and blue versions, offer F.

## How do you fill the Majohn A1?

**Unscrew the barrel at the centre joint, fill the converter from a bottle, and screw it back together.** The listing says it works with bottled ink and includes the converter.

See our guides to [filling a fountain pen](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/how-to-fill-a-fountain-pen/) and to [converters](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/fountain-pen-converters-explained/) if you're new to bottled ink.

## Where is the Majohn A1 made?

**The listings don't say.** Majohn is a Chinese brand, but the Amazon US listing we read gives no country of manufacture, and we couldn't find a Majohn maker page that does.

For another inexpensive Chinese pen we've covered, see the [Jinhao 82](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/jinhao-82/).

## Frequently asked questions

### Is the Majohn A1 a copy of the Pilot Vanishing Point?

It follows the same design: a click-out nib, a trap door in the nose and the clip at the nib end. Reviewers call it a Capless clone, and one Fountain Pen Network member found Pilot's internal nib unit fits inside it.

### Does the Majohn A1 come with a converter?

The Amazon US listing we read includes one converter and a gift box, and says to use bottled ink. One forum member who bought from China got a cartridge with a metal shell instead, so check what your seller includes.

### Can you put a Pilot Vanishing Point nib in a Majohn A1?

Owners report that it fits: one Fountain Pen Network member said the Pilot module fit perfectly, and another cited a review showing compatible VP nib units. Majohn doesn't say so, and we haven't tested it.

### Is Majohn the same as Moonman?

Yes. Reviewers write "Moonman/Majohn" for the same company, which now sells its pens under the Majohn name.

### Does the Majohn A1 dry out?

Some owners say it dries if left unused: one forum member said it writes daily but needs the nib wiped after a few days idle. Amazon's review summary also mentions drying.

### Is the Majohn A1 heavy?

About 30 g, per the listing, roughly the same as a Pilot Vanishing Point and 6 g more than the resin Platinum Curidas.
