The pen has a rounded, slightly bulbous body with a clip, unlike the clipless, octagonal Sport. Kaweco calls its shape "nostalgic". Kaweco's Mini Converter is made for the pocket Sport and Liliput; the larger Student takes the Standard converter. Our [converters guide](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/fountain-pen-converters-explained/) explains how converters work. ## Which nib should you choose on the Kaweco Student? **Kaweco recommends M for beginners.** It says EF suits small, fine handwriting and BB is often used for large, dramatic signatures. The nib unscrews, and Kaweco says any nib with its 060 thread will fit. Western nibs such as Kaweco's write about one size broader than Japanese nibs of the same letter, per Goldspot; our [nib sizes guide](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/fountain-pen-nib-sizes-explained/) compares them. ## Where is the Kaweco Student made? **In Germany, by Kaweco's account: its Amazon US listing says the pens are hand-assembled and individually inspected in Nuremberg, and all nibs are made in Germany.** Kaweco's German product page repeats the German-made nibs. Kaweco's own shop has paused orders to the USA because of import and customs costs, so US buyers need a US retailer. For the brand's story, see our [Kaweco history](https://stationerytimes.com/stories/kaweco-history/). ## Frequently asked questions ### Is the Kaweco Student bigger than the Kaweco Sport? Yes.
