## What is the Kakimori sakura wood nib holder?

**It is a plain wooden handle for dip nibs, made from Japanese cherry.** Kakimori, a stationery shop in Tokyo, calls it a holder designed for ease of writing. At seven inches it is the length of a standard pencil, so it sits in the hand like one.

You push a nib of your choice into the mount and dip it in ink. Kakimori says you can pair it with a favorite nib or switch nibs to suit your mood, and we cover its [stainless steel metal nib](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/kakimori-stainless-steel-nib/) separately.

## What are the specs?

**178 mm long, 11 mm across and 9 g, in cherry with a plastic mount.** Kakimori publishes the whole specification on its English page.

## How is the wood finished?

**Kakimori says it has an ink-resistant finish while keeping the wood's natural look.** It describes Japanese cherry as reddish and says the color deepens over time, so each holder ages differently.

Because it is natural wood, grain and color vary between pieces. A Kakimori staff comment on the page says the weight and thickness suit adults, children and left-handed writers.

## What changed with the nib mount?

**Kakimori says the product has had an updated nib mount design since September 8, 2025.** Its page doesn't describe what changed.

Yoseka's listing is for a "legacy nib mount" holder, sold out when we looked. We couldn't confirm whether legacy and updated mounts accept the same nibs, so check Kakimori's compatibility chart for your nib. Our [nib guide](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/kakimori-stainless-steel-nib/) lists holders from other brands that fit.

## How do you remove and clean the nib?

**Pull it out gently while turning it.** Kakimori says this avoids dislodging the nib mount.

After rinsing, it says to shake the holder downward to clear water and ink from the mount before fitting a nib.

## What is the White sakura wood version?

**It is the same holder cut from the pale sapwood of the cherry.** Kakimori sorts these stems by hand for the whitest pieces and prices them at ¥2,970 (about US$19), the same as the standard one.

It has its own model number, K23PDP00SW04. Kakimori says it is designed to fit many nibs, not just its own.

## What nibs does Kakimori sell for it?

**Two kinds: a pen nib with a consistent line and a metal nib with line variation.** Kakimori's page says the pen nib has a consistent line width ideal for writing, while the metal nib offers line variation for a range of creative uses.

Its metal nib in stainless steel lists at ¥4,950 (about US$31), more than the holder itself. Yoseka also sells Kakimori's glass nib and a brass metal nib.

## Is it a good first holder?

**For a first dip pen, it's a sound choice if you want a wooden handle.** Our [best dip pens for beginners](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/best-dip-pens-for-beginners/) guide covers cheaper starter sets, and the [Sailor hocoro](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/sailor-hocoro-dip-pen/) is a ready-made dip pen with a case.

## Where is it made, and what does it cost in the US?

**In Japan, per Kakimori.** Kakimori lists its country of manufacture as Japan.

Yoseka listed the legacy-mount version in our $$$ band ($20–75) on October 30, 2026. In Japan, Kakimori lists the current one at ¥2,970 (about US$19).

## Frequently asked questions

### Does the holder come with a nib?

No. Kakimori says the nib is sold separately, so you buy a nib, such as its stainless metal nib or its pen nib, alongside.

### Which nibs fit?

Kakimori says it fits most nibs as well as its own. Its compatibility chart for other brands is linked from the product page, so check it for your nib.

### Is it the same as Yoseka's legacy nib mount version?

Not quite. Kakimori says this product has had an updated nib mount design since September 8, 2025, and Yoseka's listing calls its version the legacy mount.

### How heavy is it?

9 g, according to Kakimori's specification. It lists a length of 178 mm and a diameter of 11 mm.

### Will the wood change color?

Kakimori says Japanese cherry has a reddish color that deepens over time, and that grain and color vary between pieces.

### How do you take the nib out safely?

Kakimori says to pull it out gently while turning it, to avoid dislodging the nib mount. After rinsing, shake out water and ink before fitting a nib.

### Is there a paler version?

A holder from the pale sapwood of the same cherry, sorted by hand for whiter pieces, at the same ¥2,970 (about US$19) on Kakimori's page.
