- Made in (isshoni. Notebook Pocket with pencil, 2.5 mm grid, 144 pages, black (R1832)): Japan. Maruzen Junkudo's listing for the green R1834 gives Japan as the country of origin, and Yoseka, Jenni Bick, The Journal Shop and bungu.store say made in Japan; Daigo's own isshoni. page doesn't list this notebook. ## Key takeaways

- Maruzen Junkudo lists it at 91 × 62 × 10 mm and 43 g with 144 pages; two US shops list the same 91 × 62 mm body.
- The grid is 2.5 mm, half the common 5 mm, and Daigo says it suits people used to 5 mm grid and works upright or sideways.
- The included pencil is 90 mm long with a 5 mm shaft; spare pencils (2-pack) and a dedicated sharpener are sold separately.
- It comes in four colors in Daigo's codes, R1831 gray, R1832 black, R1833 blue and R1834 green, each with its own JAN code.
- Japan's list price is about ¥770 (about US$4.90) with tax, and US sellers listed it within our $$ band ($5–20) on October 28, 2026.

## What is the isshoni. pocket notebook with pencil?

**It is a mini notebook from Daigo of Osaka that carries its own pencil.** Maruzen Junkudo's listing describes it as a small notebook you can write in the moment an idea strikes, with no pen to carry separately. It belongs to the isshoni. line for office workers that our [DAIGO story](https://stationerytimes.com/stories/daigo-history/) covers.

Yoseka, a New York shop, says the pencil works as a bookmark too, because a ribbon is attached to it.

## What are its specs?

**91 × 62 × 10 mm, 144 pages and 43 g, per Maruzen Junkudo's listing.** Daigo's own isshoni. page doesn't list this notebook, so these figures are retailers'.

| Spec | Value |
|---|---|
| Size | 91 × 62 × 10 mm (3.6 × 2.4 × 0.4 in) |
| Weight | 43 g (1.5 oz) per Maruzen; 50 g per The Journal Shop |
| Pages | 144 (72 leaves) |
| Ruling | 2.5 mm grid, usable upright or sideways |
| Cover | PVC with gold embossing |
| Binding | Thread-stitched; opens 180 degrees (Jenni Bick) |
| Pencil | Wood, 90 mm long, 5 mm shaft, on a bookmark ribbon |
| Sharpener | Plastic, 12 × 26 × 15 mm, sold separately |
| Colors | Gray R1831, black R1832, blue R1833, green R1834 |
| JAN (black) | 4902041418324 |

The Journal Shop and bungu.store list 98 × 75 × 10 mm instead. The difference is probably the packaging or a different measuring method, but we haven't confirmed it.

## What are the perforated corners for?

**They let you tear off a corner of each page as you finish it, so the unused pages stick out.** Daigo's text, as Maruzen gives it, says this marks used pages and also gives a sense of achievement for how much you've used.

It works like a bookmark built into every page.

## Why does it use a 2.5 mm grid?

**Because Daigo says it suits people used to 5 mm grid, while letting you write finer.** A 2.5 mm cell is half the common 5 mm, so a 5 mm square covers four cells.

![A 2.5 mm grid beside a 5 mm grid at 8 px per mm; one 5 mm square covers four 2.5 mm cells](https://stationerytimes.com/images/daigo-isshoni-pocket-notebook-grid.svg?v=0bf60400)

Daigo says the layout works vertically or horizontally. In our view, the fine grid helps sketch small tables or diagrams in a body this small.

## What do the pencil and sharpener need?

**Spare pencils and a sharpener are sold separately, and the sharpener only suits thin pencils.** The Journal Shop sells a 2-pack of spare pencils with ribbon (S2476, JAN 4902041724760) and a sharpener (S2477, JAN 4902041724777). bungu.store says the sharpener is built for the thin shaft pencils Daigo packs with its diaries and planners, not regular pencils.

The pencil is 90 mm long (3.5 in) with a 5 mm shaft. Neither shop gives the lead diameter or grade, so we can't say how dark it writes.

## How much does it cost and where can you buy it in the US?

**US sellers listed it from about US$8 to US$14 on October 28, 2026, in our $$ band ($5–20).** Yoseka listed US$8.00 and Jenni Bick US$14 in black or blue.

The Journal Shop priced it at £7.99 (about US$11); its spare pencils were £3.25 (about US$4.30) and the sharpener £2.75 (about US$3.60). bungu.store listed ¥1,600 (about US$10). In Japan, Maruzen Junkudo listed it at ¥770 (about US$4.90) with tax.

## Is it the same as Daigo's mini memo with pencil?

**No: Daigo's April 28, 2026 release describes a separate mini memo with a pencil, aimed at visitors to Japan.** Its inner pages are 90 × 51 mm with a 5 mm grid and 144 pages, in kanji and illustration cover designs, at ¥825 (about US$5.20) with tax.

We haven't compared the two side by side. For other small notebooks, see our [pocket notebooks roundup](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/best-pocket-notebooks/) and the [Delfonics Rollbahn pocket memo](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/delfonics-rollbahn-pocket-memo/).

## Frequently asked questions

### How many pages does the isshoni. pocket notebook have?

144 pages, which Jenni Bick says is 72 leaves. Maruzen Junkudo, Yoseka and The Journal Shop all give 144 pages.

### Can you refill the pencil?

Not by lead: it is a thin wooden pencil. The Journal Shop sells a 2-pack of spare pencils with the bookmark ribbon (S2476) and a sharpener (S2477) for the notebook.

### Does the sharpener fit ordinary pencils?

No, bungu.store says it is made for the thin shaft pencils used with Daigo diaries and planners, not regular pencils. The pencil's shaft is 5 mm across, and the sharpener is 12 × 26 × 15 mm.

### Is the pocket notebook ruled or grid?

Grid. Jenni Bick describes a subtle gray 2.5 mm grid on the pages, and Daigo's text says it works vertically or horizontally.

### Why is it 91 × 62 mm on some sites and 98 × 75 mm on others?

Maruzen Junkudo, Yoseka and Jenni Bick list 91 × 62 mm, while The Journal Shop and bungu.store give 98 × 75 × 10 mm. We use 91 × 62 mm because three shops agree.

### Does the notebook open flat?

Jenni Bick says its thread-stitched binding opens a full 180 degrees. We haven't tested that.

### What colors does it come in?

Daigo's code list gives gray, black, blue and green, but US shops carry subsets: Yoseka showed green, blue, black and gray, and Jenni Bick showed black and blue.
