## Key takeaways

- Copic Japan lists the Multiliner at 10.5 × 14.5 × 139 mm and ¥242 (about US$1.50) with tax.
- Black comes in 7 widths, 0.03, 0.05, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.8 and 1.0 mm; the other 9 colors come in 4 or 5 widths.
- Copic says the pigment ink resists both water and alcohol, so Copic Sketch and Ciao markers won't dissolve the lines.

- Copic Japan announced on October 15, 2026 that it stops shipping the Multiliner in Japan at the end of October 2026; the Multiliner Plus, launched in July 2026, is its replacement.

## What is the Copic Multiliner?

**It's Copic's disposable drawing pen with pigment ink made to survive being colored over with alcohol markers.** Copic Japan describes it as a line-drawing pen whose ink doesn't bleed under Copic markers, for illustration, manga and pen drawing.

That's the reason it exists. Many water-based fineliners smudge when an alcohol marker passes over them; the Multiliner's ink is water-resistant and alcohol-resistant, per Copic.

## How popular is it?

**The 9-pen black set B-2 had about 8,900 Amazon US ratings averaging 4.7 stars on October 22, 2026, with 300+ bought in the past month.** It's the usual inking pen sold beside the [Copic Sketch](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/copic-sketch/) markers.

## What line widths are there?

**Black comes in seven widths, from a 0.03 mm hairline to a bold 1.0 mm.** The other colors come in 4 or 5 widths up to 0.5 mm, per Copic Japan.

![Copic Multiliner black line widths drawn to scale: 0.03, 0.05, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.8 and 1.0 mm](https://stationerytimes.com/images/copic-multiliner-line-widths.svg)

*The seven black widths at 1 mm = 60 px.*

Copic also makes brush-tip Multiliners in small (BS) and medium (BM) for filling small areas, and calligraphy tips of about 2 mm (CS) and 4 mm (CM), each ¥297 (about US$1.90) in Japan.

## What colors are there?

**Copic Japan lists ten: black, cool gray, warm gray, sepia, brown, wine, cobalt, olive, pink and lavender.** Colored lines are softer than black, which suits linework you want to recede behind the color.

Wine, cobalt and olive start at 0.05 mm; the others, except black, start at 0.03 mm.

## Which set should you buy?

**Buy the black set that matches your work: A-2 has the seven widths, B-2 adds the two brush tips.** Copic Japan lists A-2 at ¥1,694 (about US$11) and B-2 at ¥2,288 (about US$14), and nine different 4-pen sets from ¥968 (about US$6.10).

Single pens fall in our $ band (under $5).

## Multiliner, Multiliner Plus or Multiliner SP?

**Buy the Multiliner Plus: Copic is ending shipments of both the Multiliner and the SP, and names the Plus as their replacement.** All three use the same water- and alcohol-resistant pigment ink, per Copic Japan.

On October 15, 2026, Copic Japan announced that domestic shipments of the Multiliner (single pens, the A-2 and B-2 black sets, the 4-pen sets and the 2-pen calligraphy set) end in late October 2026. Shops can sell what they still have, and Copic's own Too stores will keep selling it for now. US stock may last longer, but expect it to thin out.

The [Multiliner Plus](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/copic-multiliner-plus/), on sale since July 2026, costs ¥297 (about US$1.90) and takes ink cartridges and replacement nibs. Copic says its nibs resist wear about 70% better and it writes about 50% farther than the original, in 8 colors plus a limited turquoise.

The Multiliner SP, a refillable black-only model at ¥594 (about US$3.80), measures 10 × 10 × 135 mm and came in 10 widths. Copic Japan marks it as sold only while stocks last, so check that refills and nibs are still available before you invest in a set.

## How does it compare with other fineliners?

**Choose the Multiliner under Copic markers, the Micron for availability, and the Staedtler for a European alternative.**

For more, see our [best fineliners](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/best-fineliners/). The [Kuretake ZIG Mangaka](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/kuretake-zig-cartoonist-mangaka/) is a cheaper Japanese pigment pen whose ink also resists alcohol markers.

## Where is the Copic Multiliner made?

**In Japan, according to Modulor, a German art-supply retailer, which lists the Multiliner as made in Japan.** Copic's own pages don't state a country. Copic is a brand of Too Marker Products of Tokyo.

## Frequently asked questions

Copic Japan lists 10: black, cool gray, warm gray, sepia, brown, wine, cobalt, olive, pink and lavender.
