## What is the Caran d'Ache Toile de Jouy pencil set?

**It's a holiday gift box of 10 water-soluble colored pencils from Caran d'Ache's Christmas 2026 collection, Toile de Jouy – Geneva Edition.** The collection reworks the old printed-fabric style around Geneva, the Swiss maker's home city.

Textile illustrator Suzanne Pinon drew the pattern: the Jet d'eau fountain, Lake Geneva, the Flower Clock, the Botanical Garden and other landmarks. Caran d'Ache's description calls the pencil box's print blue and beige, but its own product photo and Goldspot's listing show a beige box with a burgundy panel, which is how we drew it.

## What's in the set?

**Ten pencils in shades made only for this set: seven pastels and three metallics.** Caran d'Ache says the palette was inspired by Geneva in winter.

Goldspot says the leads are Caran d'Ache's Supracolor Aquarelle. Caran d'Ache's own page says only "aquarellables", water-soluble.

## How do you use watercolor pencils like these?

**Draw dry, then go over the lines with a wet brush to turn them into a wash.** The soft 3.8 mm lead lays down a lot of colour, which then dissolves when wet.

For more control, wet the paper first or lift colour off the lead with a damp brush. A water brush such as the [Pentel Aquash](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/pentel-aquash-water-brush/) is the easiest way to carry water with you.

## How does it compare with Caran d'Ache's other colored pencils?

**It's a small, seasonal water-soluble set, not a permanent artist range.** Caran d'Ache's [Luminance 6901](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/caran-dache-luminance/) is its permanent, lightfast, wax-based pencil, and it doesn't dissolve in water.

| | Toile de Jouy set of 10 | Luminance 6901 |
|---|---|---|
| Water-soluble | Yes | No |
| Colours | 10, set only (7 pastel, 3 metallic) | Open stock range |
| Lead | 3.8 mm | Caran d'Ache's permanent artist lead |
| Sold | Holiday 2026 collection | All year |

## How much is it, and where can you buy it?

**Caran d'Ache's Swiss shop lists it at CHF 28 (about US$34); in the US it falls in our $ band per pencil, under $5.** On October 22, 2026, both Caran d'Ache's Swiss and US shops showed it as coming soon.

Goldspot listed it as a sneak peek the same week. The collection also has a mixed-media set with 10 Neocolor II water-soluble pastels in the same shades, and Toile de Jouy versions of the [Caran d'Ache 849](https://stationerytimes.com/guides/caran-dache-849/) ballpoint.

## What else is in the Toile de Jouy collection?

**Writing instruments, art sets and desk objects in the same Geneva print.** Caran d'Ache's Swiss shop listed these on October 22, 2026:

| Item | Swiss price |
|---|---|
| Lined A5 notebook | CHF 15 (about US$18) |
| Set of 10 colored pencils (this set) | CHF 28 (about US$34) |
| 3 scented HB pencils, Crayons de la Maison | CHF 29 (about US$35) |
| 849 ballpoint, Bordeaux or white | CHF 47 (about US$57) |
| 10 pencils and 10 Neocolor II pastels | CHF 49 (about US$59) |
| Metal sharpening machine | CHF 209 (about US$253) |

The pencil set is the least expensive art item in the collection.

## Where is it made?

**In Switzerland.** Caran d'Ache's Swiss French page says the set is "Développé et fabriqué en Suisse" (developed and made in Switzerland), and the pencils are stamped Swiss Made.

Caran d'Ache is based in Thônex, near Geneva. Its page also lists FSC certification for the cedar.
